Annual Appeal 2025

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

 

The South Acworth Village Store has been at its current location since its building was completed in 1865. The building and the store were privately owned and operated for 136 years. When the building was listed for sale in 2001, the Acworth Historical Society, a non-profit organization, stepped in and purchased it, then helped establish the Acworth Community Project, a volunteer group, to operate the store. Today, the Acworth Community Project continues to manage the store. This was, and continues to be an historic endeavor.  We strive to serve the community and nurture that community feeling by providing a safe and friendly place to go in our very special town. The South Acworth Village Store is one of the oldest village stores still operating in New Hampshire. While most small-town stores have closed and continue to close, we are lucky to say that we will hit a milestone this year as we celebrate our 160th year of operation.

 

We sincerely thank all of you who supported the store in 2024 by submitting donations, donating time, shopping with us, dining with us, or just drinking coffee and hanging out. We love seeing groups of people gathering on the front porch or sitting at the picnic tables in the back of the store. There is truly a feeling of community here.

In 2024, we had to repair our refrigeration, but nothing major.  We enjoyed being able to focus on serving you and improving our selection of goods.  We also upgraded some of our equipment.

​

We are looking to install a generator this year that will allow us to continue to serve customers when there is no power. A generator also means that our perishables maintain their integrity.  While we have received grants, we need your help to get us across the finish line. This is a goal we have been striving for but haven’t reached. Also, we rely on our daily customers to keep our day-to-day operations running. During the winter we lose some of that and struggle with maintaining our reserves that keep us open.
